Tomorrow we are headed to a USDAA trial which will be fun, well as long as the dogs and I don't get ill. I've been reading emails and talking to people about the latest round of kennel cough. I'm both amused and bemused by people's attitudes - they range from panic to totally unconcerned. I am somewhere in the middle. I realize that kennel cough and other diseases are transmitted anywhere there is a concentration of dogs, and that is a risk I take. As long as there is common sense among exhibitors there is no need to panic. Common sense means that if your dog was exposed to kennel cough at a recent trial, agility or obedience class and your dog has a any symptoms such as a cough, gag or snort or doesn't seem to feel well - stay home. Yes kennel cough for a healthy dog is a self limiting disease and yes your dog may have kennel cough but not show symptoms if recently acquired. I am not trying to shame or blame if your dog has kennel cough, my hope is that people would think of their fellow exhibitors dogs and their own dog before attending a trial with an ill dog.
I hope everyone has fun and cough free weekend with their dogs no matter what you are doing or where you are!
